Photojournalism: Capturing candid moments

A group of boys hanging out and talking during lunch at school sharing conversation and meal.

A girl and boy lounging around in the drama room simply conversating and doing their own side hobby.

Critique: Henri cartier Bresson

Henri Cartier is a photographer journalist, born august 22 in 1908. One of the first of his kind of art form. Photojournalism is a more natural state of photography where the images are taken of moments. Moments of interaction and such are perfect for photo journalists. In the top left image a group of men can be seen hanging around at the bank of what appears to be a river. You don’t really know anything of anyone from just the image but you can tell they are enjoying each others company, like they’re having a picnic amongst friends. The upper right is a man and a woman crying in each other arms, we don’t know the situation or anything for that matter but we can see the bond they hold with a single frame as they wipe the tears off one another’s faces. The final image a woman doing another woman’s makeup or touching up her face. You can see from their expressions they’re having fun. When I think of photojournalism that’s one comes to mind, hugging, smiling, and enjoying moments with others.

The image appears to be a shadow of a tree or something of sorts, but the color and pure darkness of the shadow allow the imagination to run wild. When first looking at the image, Slenderman and similar shadowy figures come to mind. Like a monster of pitch black extending its tentacle like appendages. Thats the idea in photography, imagination in one frame.

The client I am presenting is Nalani Argon and her product is a shiny amber colored Butterly jewel chocker and/or necklace for any and all who love to wear elegant necklaces. I would expect to see this advertisement on the company’s social media page. In order to make it look professional I plan to use a very dark setting with the source of light being the monolight. The only props required are a stunning model and the beautiful necklace.

One of the things that makes Coca-Cola commercials so appealing is how crisp and perfectly clear the images and videos of the drink come out.

One thing that makes images very appealing is creativity and the classic splash when a beverage is put down combined with very perfect visuals and up-close splashing that almost feels like your there, creates an amazing advertisement.

People love a good mystery, what better than a dark setting with light illuminating a target.

Introduction to Using Strobes

The most important thing in photography is the light. Cameras settings, are all different ways to alter light. In shooting light equipment is necessary in order to take a good picture at times. In photography there are generally two lights one can use, a flash head and a power pack or a monolight which is a light stand with its power built in. Flash packs are basically multiple “heads” (the parts that emit light) and its separate power generator (the power pack) that emits voltage, when transmitted into the heads they create a flash of light.  The symmetric power packs emit voltage equally into every head (equal lighting) and the asymmetric lights allow for one to manually be programed to emit greater light. Mono lights on the other hand are more like a regular flashlight which makes them convenient for moving around. Other devices you could use to modify the lighting on pictures are the light modifiers. These modifiers are things like reflective umbrellas which help create a softer light tone for images by basically spreading the light in a lighter tone and spreading it out more. Some other devices would consist of soft boxes which are similar to reflective umbrellas except their light is far more focused and tone is not as light.
